Gourmet hot dog with a German cheese kransky

A friend of ours posted a picture of a gourmet hot dog for lunch one day and when The Boy saw it, he immediately wanted to have it for lunch too. The very next day we headed out to our local Aldi to get the ingredients to make them, heedless of the leftovers we had in the fridge that still need to be eaten. The leftover will keep for another day cos these hot dogs turned out to be delicious. The Boy says they could be the best hot dogs he's ever had so thank you to my friend for the inspiration.

Here's the recipe:

Ingredients:
  • Brioche hot dog buns (or any type of hot dog bun you prefer)
  • German cheese kransky sausages
  • One onion, sliced
  • 1 teaspoon balsamic vinegar
  • 1 tablespoon brown sugar
  • Pinch of salt
  • 8 pieces pickled jalapeno, diced
  • Handful shredded cheese
  • Garlic aioli (recipe below)
  • Hot English mustard or American mustard (whichever you prefer)
  • Ketchup

Garlic aioli:
  • 2 tablespoons whole egg mayonnaise
  • 1 teaspoon minced garlic
  • Pinch of salt

Instructions:
  • In a pan, cook hot dogs for about 8 minutes heating each side till done, remove from pan.
  • In the same pan, add some olive oil and cook onions till caramelised. Add a pinch of salt and cook for a minute. Then add balsamic vinegar and brown sugar until onions are browned and sweet.
  • In a small bowl, mix all ingredients for garlic aioli together until well combined.
  • To assemble, spread hot dog bun with garlic aioli and mustard. Sprinkle a little cheese on top of aioli and mustard. Then add kransky. Add caramelised onions and pickled jalapeno to one side of the hot dog. Top with ketchup.
  • Enjoy.
